Value or values: value creation or the creation of value(s) by the green company (1)

Does the green enterprise create financial value (value) or does it aim solely to fulfil societal values linked to the sustainable economy (value(s)) as set out by Laura Starks in her 2023 Presidential Address to the American Finance Association, and which we elaborated on in our contribution to the collective work, Sustainable Finance. To answer this question, we must address several sub-questions:
– Is there a correlation between CSR performance and financial performance (1)?
– Are there differences between ESG and non-ESG investors (2)?
– What are the benefits of CSR investments (3)?
– How do CSR investments create value (4)?
– How does the ‘value(s)’ approach change our understanding of the range of possible investments (5)?
